While it sounds almost impossible now, time was different before the COVID-19 outbreak caused such major changes in how we all live and work. It is our hope that customers and employees all practice safety measures for maintaining optimal health at this time. That said, we do wish to share some recent conference news that we feel benefits many of us.
Ongoing Commitment to Continuing Education at Second to Nature
The entire staff of Second to Nature took time earlier this year to attend the Essentially Women Focus Conference. Our focus on helping women recovering from breast surgery means we must stay on top of the latest news and products. The staff at Second to Nature attend conferences regularly to discover the newest vendors and engage with providers who have so much to offer the women we serve.
We traveled to Tampa, Florida, for three days, February 8, 9, and 10, 2020, as part of our ongoing commitment to continuing education. The keynote speakers at the event brought such insight and validation to the experiences women face after breast surgery. Our staff took classes in the latest state-of-the-art products for women who have had breast surgery.
Discoveries and Reasons to Attend Conferences
While it may be obvious to us, we realize that attending industry conferences or women’s conferences might not be part of everyone’s yearly schedule. This is why we make it a point to attend. Training opportunities are often few in number, so attending a conference that focuses on women’s health issues is especially vital to us. Women’s conferences, in particular, can be especially enlightening and provide such a supportive space to learn.
Along with the educational aspect, attending a focused conference provides validation and strength. Hearing from health experts and hearing about the health outcomes others achieve reinforces some of the basic principles of care and self-care. Conference attendance remains a primary way to share information interactively.
Exhibit Hall Happenings
Of course, attending a conference such as this requires a visit to the exhibit hall. Here is where so much discovery takes place! Taking a stroll through the displays in the exhibit hall gives us an opportunity to see items firsthand and ask questions directly. It is an opportunity and a privilege for us to represent the Roanoke area in such an important way.
Vendors in the exhibit hall displayed new post-surgery garments to wear while healing from breast surgery. Many of the forms and garments we feature at Second to Nature find their way to us from industry distributors and vendors. Being able to chat with the representatives from the major brands does make a difference to us and our ability to better serve our customers.
Certified Mastectomy Fitter in Roanoke, VA
Second to Nature staff members Scott and Rebecca Whitehill, Ashley Garcia, and Tiara Williams attended the conference in Tampa. Seminar workshops at the Essentially Women Focus Conference enable us to earn credits for our certification as mastectomy fitters.
One of the conference workshops included such subjects as how to select, create, and fit custom breast prostheses. Another focused on how to fit custom garments using new scanning technology. These are very important parts of the primary services Second to Nature provides to our Roanoke-area clients.
